How to Spot Fake JAMB and WAEC Result Websites

Fake result-checker and "free download" sites exist to steal your money and data, here is how to avoid them.

Step by step

1. Check the address bar firstBefore typing anything, read the full web address. Genuine JAMB results are on jamb.gov.ng (and the efacility.jamb.gov.ng portal); genuine WAEC results are on waecdirect.org. A .gov.ng or the exact waecdirect.org spelling matters, look out for extra words, dashes or odd endings.
2. Use the official method for JAMBCheck your JAMB result on the portal after logging into your profile, or by SMS: send UTMERESULT (as instructed by JAMB) to the official short code from the phone number you registered with. Confirm the exact code and any charge on jamb.gov.ng.
3. Use the official method for WAECGo directly to waecdirect.org, enter your exam number, then the serial number and PIN from a genuine WAEC scratch card or e-PIN. Never buy a PIN from a site offering suspiciously cheap or "free" access.
4. Reject fee-for-results offersIgnore any site or agent promising to "upgrade" your score, guarantee admission, or reveal results before official release. These are frauds designed to take your money and details.
5. Protect your dataA result page should never ask for your BVN, full card details, bank password or OTP. If it does, close the tab immediately, you are on a fake site.
6. Report the fake siteIf you find a cloned result site, avoid it and report it to the EFCC or the Nigeria Police cybercrime centre so others can be protected.

Why fake result sites exist

Around every JAMB and WAEC release, dozens of look-alike websites appear. They copy the logo, colours and layout of the real portals and rank high on search for terms like “check result free”. Their goal is simple: collect your card details, exam number and personal data, or sell you a worthless “PIN”. Because students are anxious and in a hurry, these sites succeed more often than they should.

The one check that beats them: the URL

The single most reliable defence is to read the web address before you type anything. Official JAMB results live on jamb.gov.ng and its efacility.jamb.gov.ng portal. Official WAEC results live on waecdirect.org. Fake sites use small changes, an extra word, a hyphen, a different ending like .com.ng-something, or a totally unrelated domain dressed up to look official. When in doubt, go to the main sites, jamb.gov.ng or waec.org.ng, and follow their links.

Where PINs really come from

Result-checker access depends on a genuine PIN. For WAEC, that means a real scratch card or an e-PIN bought through official channels, not a random seller promising a discount. Red flags to walk away from

Some warning signs are unmistakable. A page that promises to “upgrade” your score is a scam, because no one can change your official result. A site asking for your BVN, bank password, full card number or OTP just to show a result is harvesting data. Offers of “admission for a fee” outside official processes are fraud. If you meet any of these, leave the site.
