What SabiGuide does and does not collect, how we use cookies and analytics, and your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
Our approach to your privacy
SabiGuide is a publisher of civic how-to guides, not an application portal. We have deliberately built the site to collect as little personal data as possible. This policy explains what we do and do not collect, why, and the rights you have under Nigerian law. It applies to sabiguide.com.
What we do not collect
We want to be unambiguous: SabiGuide does not collect, request or store your BVN, NIN, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), bank account numbers, card details or passwords. There is no reason for us to have them, and we never ask for them. The site has no user accounts and no login. Please never send us such details.
What we do collect
Because we do not run accounts or data-entry forms, the only information we handle in ordinary use is:
- Standard server logs. Like almost every website, our servers automatically record technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the date and time. This is used for security, to diagnose problems and to understand overall traffic.
- Email you send us. If you email [email protected], we hold that message and your address so we can reply and, where relevant, act on a correction.
Cookies and analytics
We aim to use privacy-respecting analytics that help us understand which guides are useful without building profiles of individuals. Any analytics we use are configured to minimise personal data. Where cookies are used, your browser lets you block or delete them; essential cookies (if any) keep the site working, while non-essential cookies are kept to a minimum.
Advertising and advertising cookies
SabiGuide is funded by advertising, and advertising partners may set their own cookies or use similar technologies to show and measure ads. These third parties operate under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. You can usually manage ad personalisation through your browser settings and your device’s ad-preferences controls. Advertising never gives partners access to your correspondence with us or any influence over our editorial guides.
Children
SabiGuide is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention
We keep server logs only for as long as needed for security and troubleshooting, after which they are deleted or anonymised in the ordinary course. Emails are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry or correction and our records of it, and no longer than necessary.
Third-party official links
Our guides link to official portals such as nimc.gov.ng, jamb.gov.ng, waecdirect.org, neco.gov.ng, portal.nysc.org.ng, immigration.gov.ng, cbn.gov.ng and nibss-plc.com.ng. When you follow a link, you leave SabiGuide and are governed by that site’s own privacy policy. We are not responsible for how those sites handle your data — always check that you are on the genuine official domain before entering anything.
Your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) — and the earlier Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) — you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, to request correction of inaccurate data, to request deletion, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on it. To exercise any of these rights regarding data we hold, email [email protected]. If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you may also contact the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), the regulator responsible for enforcing the NDPA.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but because we hold so little personal data by design, your exposure is kept low.
