How to Get or Print Your NIN Slip (and the Improved Slip)

The difference between the basic slip, the Improved NIN slip, and the plastic card, and how to obtain each one.

Step by step

1. Confirm your NIN firstYou need your 11-digit NIN to request any slip. If you do not have it to hand, retrieve it before you start.
2. Open the official NIMC self-service portal or appLog in to the NIMC self-service portal at https://nimc.gov.ng (which links to the current portal) or use the official NIMC MobileID app, using your NIN and the phone number linked to it.
3. Choose the slip you wantSelect the Improved NIN slip and choose between the Standard slip and the Premium slip. The Premium slip carries a QR code and extra security features.
4. Pay the applicable fee onlinePay the current fee through the portal's approved payment option (such as Remita). As of 2026 the Standard and Premium slips carry different fees; confirm the exact current amounts on the official portal before paying.
5. Download and printDownload the front and rear of your slip as a PDF, then print it. You may laminate it or, where offered, request a plastic card version for durability.

The three formats explained

People use the phrase ‘NIN slip’ loosely, but there are really three things. First, the basic slip you are handed free when you finish enrolment, which shows your NIN and core details. Second, the Improved NIN slip, a smaller, more pocket-friendly version issued in two forms: a Standard slip and a Premium slip that carries a QR code and extra security features. Third, a plastic card, the most durable option, which NIMC offers separately. Knowing which one a bank, school or telecom actually requires saves you money, because for most day-to-day purposes the number itself is what matters.

Portal versus app

The web portal is best when you want a printable PDF you can take to a business centre. A note on fees

Fees for the Standard slip, Premium slip and plastic card are set by NIMC and change from time to time. Rather than trust a figure quoted on a blog, check the amount shown on the official portal at the moment you pay. Pay only through the portal’s built-in payment option; never transfer money to a personal account for this.

Common problems

If the portal cannot find your record, the usual cause is a mismatch between the phone number you are using and the one on file. If a payment succeeds but no slip appears, keep the payment reference and contact NIMC support through the official channels rather than paying a second time.
