How to Create a JAMB Profile

Your JAMB profile code comes first, before you can buy an e-PIN or register for UTME or Direct Entry.

Step by step

1. Get your NIN readyYou must have a valid 11-digit National Identification Number (NIN) from NIMC. Keep about N50 airtime on the line you intend to use for all JAMB dealings.
2. Send the profile SMSFrom that phone, text NIN then a space then your 11-digit NIN (for example: NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019. Type only the digits, no dashes.
3. Wait for your profile codeA confirmation with your JAMB profile code is sent back by SMS, usually within a few minutes. Save it; you will quote it when buying your e-PIN.
4. Or create it on the portal insteadAlternatively, open portal.jamb.gov.ng, choose Create an Account, enter your details including NIN and a working email, then click Verify Email and follow the link JAMB emails you.
5. Resend the code if it failsIf you do not receive the code, text RESEND to 55019 or 66019 from the SAME number to have your profile code sent again.
6. Proceed to buy your e-PINWith the profile code in hand, you can pay for and obtain your JAMB e-PIN through the approved channels, then begin UTME or Direct Entry registration.

What a JAMB profile actually is

Your JAMB profile is your personal account with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. It ties together your NIN, your contact details and every transaction you make, from buying an e-PIN to registering for UTME or Direct Entry and, later, checking results. Because it is linked to your identity, you only need one profile, and you should protect the login details as carefully as you would a bank password.

What you need before you start

Have three things ready: a valid 11-digit NIN from NIMC, a phone number you will keep using for all JAMB matters, and a working email address if you prefer the portal method. Keep a little airtime on the line, since the SMS method carries a small network charge. If you are not sure your NIN is active, sort that out first.

SMS versus the portal

Both routes create the same profile. The SMS method (texting your NIN to 55019 or 66019) is quickest if you only have a basic phone and returns a profile code you keep for buying your e-PIN. The portal method at portal.jamb.gov.ng suits anyone comfortable online: you create an account, verify your email and manage everything from a dashboard. Pick whichever you find easier; you do not need both.

Common problems

If no code arrives, resend it before assuming the profile failed, and always check you typed the NIN correctly with no spaces or dashes among the digits. Network delays are common during busy registration periods, so give it time. Keep your profile code and email login somewhere safe; you will reuse them right through to when you check your JAMB result and later print your result slip.

After your profile is ready

Once the profile exists, the next steps are buying your e-PIN and completing registration at an accredited centre or online, depending on the current arrangement. Fees, portal names and codes can change between cycles, so treat the figures here as a guide and confirm the current details on the official JAMB site before you pay for anything.
